What does “museum quality” mean in framing?
The term “museum quality” means a high level of protection or preservation used in the framing process. The frame and the framing materials are made with high quality materials and techniques; basically, a cut above the rest.
For a piece to be framed and legitimately deserve the term “museum quality,” it needs to have these attributes:
1. The frame must be of high quality.
2. Museum quality glass must be non-glare and have UV filtered glazing.
3. Any matting must be 100% cotton rag, acid-free (or pH neutral).
4. Any backing board must be 100% cotton rag, acid-free (or pH neutral).
If a print (either paper print or canvas) is not preserved in this manner, degradation can occur. Often this degradation cannot be repaired. If a damaged print can be restored, it will be at great cost.
Many times, museum pieces are canvas which has been framed but is without matting and glass. This is an accepted method and is used in many of today’s renowned museums.
This time-honored method of framing is the one we employ here at Ever After. Our canvas portraits are framed without matting and glass. The canvas is sprayed with a protective spray which preserves the integrity of the colors and helps prevent scratching and fading.
Your framed portrait will be of the finest quality and will be passed through the generations of your family as an heirloom.
Our Masterpiece Framing line is our highest quality frames, hand made here in the U.S. by fourth generation craftsmen.
Our Standard Framing line is of high quality woods and metals, with a large variety of choices in colors and styles.
Our Rembrandt Canvas Finish starts with an archival Giclee canvas and mixes photography and painting and is enhanced with oils, painted with the love and talent of a portrait painter, creating depth and dimension. The result is exquisite, amazing and, above all, priceless as it has the realism of a photograph but the beauty, style and feel of a free-hand painting. The painting style is customized to the look and feel of the image.
Our Artist’s Canvas Finish starts with an archival Giclee canvas. Your portrait is printed directly onto the canvas and then goes through a multi-step process to ensure the quality and the protection of the canvas.
