Reston, Virginia and its area residents are enjoying these lazy days of summer. Most of us are either busy enjoying summer activities or simply enjoying the time to do nothing much! However, summer provides an excellent opportunity to start thinking about booking your autumn family pictures. We have begun booking appointments for September, October, and November, and we recommend you book as far ahead as you can. Together, we can create your dream family portraits!

When the weather begins to transition in a few months, and the bright colors of summer slowly give way to the richness of fall, our outdoor portrait park practically beckons. Just as nature offers an authentic background, our portrait park offers the perfect location for precious family pictures.

Our portrait studio offers our clients far more than just an outdoor space. We offer you the opportunity to enhance upon nature’s offerings with our park’s features and/or props. You can add depth and interest to your portraits with a rustic wooden bridge and pier; a wooden-post fence; an old barn; one of our two ponds; or one of our elegant antique sofas!

We encourage our clients to let their personalities shine through in their portraits. We ask them to work with us to create a stunning portrait honestly reflective of their family. We know when we have achieved that because our clients are thrilled with the results. They see their family’s love captured ever so perfectly in a portrait, and we can see the pride in their faces when we reveal their finished product.

Images reflected on water have long fascinated photographers and artists alike. Reflections can result in some powerful imagery — which is why we often like to do family pictures with a water reflection in the portrait! The effect can be eye-catching and lovely. Our 2.5-acre outdoor portrait park near Reston, VA, and Herndon, VA offers the perfect opportunity to employ this effect with its scenic pond!

Reflections – whether in water, glass, or mirrors – offer a multi-dimensional, provocative look. It’s a technique best left for the most skilled photographers or artists; otherwise, you risk losing some of its potential. Not done correctly, the image loses its power and artistry. At Ever After, it’s a technique we often employ and with which we have a lot of experience. It’s important to have a keen eye for composition if you want to use a reflection in any photo.

We use water reflections in two ways: artistically for effect or an indirect lighting effect. Either way, as we have said, the results can be breathtaking.

Our 2.5-acre outdoor portrait park offers a rich array of photographic opportunities many of our clients opt to use. From its lush forests, two ponds, wooden bridge and wooden-post fence, to our antique couches, family pictures taken in the park tend to be creative and sometimes a study in contrasts. You can’t go wrong in the park!

For those families seeking a more artistic portrait, the ponds are perfect. We often stand across the pond to perfectly capture the reflection of our subjects. There are no limits to creativity – and we love to get creative if it’s what our clients are asking! Water reflections can be used for a fun, spontaneous portrait or a more pensive mood. You can stand at the water’s edge, on the bridge looking over into the water, or on the dock. You could even remove your shoes and tiptoe into the water’s edge itself for a fun and more natural picture!

Show them the love! It doesn’t have to be a holiday to show your children how much you love them. 1. Tell them you love them, of course! Showing them as well as telling your children you love them is important.

3. Praise your child for effort more than outcomes, and don’t over-praise them. That can have an adverse effect.

5. Love and support your child for who they are, not who you want them to be.

What if my kids won’t sit still for our portrait session? | Northern VA Family Photographer

It is perfectly fine if your children won’t sit still for photographs – if we are the ones taking their pictures! Not only do we love photographing families and children throughout Northern Virginia, including Herndon, VA, as an experienced studio photographer we can work with any child!

Photographing Children

Acting up is perfectly normal for children even if it’s during a photo session. We’re family photographers and we have been for over a decade now, so trust us, we’re good with kids! Kids act up and sometimes they’re naughty. They’re kids; that’s what they do. And you know what? Sometimes those make the BEST images, the ones that will bring a chuckle when you look at them.

When it comes to photography, we have pretty much seen it all. So there’s no need to worry! We’re comfortable around children. Some of the images parents love the most end up being the ones we’ve taken when kids are acting like kids.

The key is to be a prepared photographer. Taking pictures of kids is a tiny bit like sports photography: You must be ready to shoot at all times, and you must take lots of images!

Once you arrive for your portrait session, we want the little ones to get comfortable with us and their environment. We want to connect with them as much as with you. We will play a bit with them when they first arrive. Then, when the time is right, we begin to settle them back down again. We start to draw their attention toward the camera at the right time.

If for some reason, however, you don’t absolutely love them, we will re-do your photo session at no cost to you or we will refund every penny of your portrait commission fee. Spacious Outdoor Portrait Studio Park

Family portraits have evolved into a far more candid and casual look than in the 1960’s or 1970’s. Generally, our style of family photography is not stiff and formal! It’s what our clients are asking for, and our beautiful 2.5-acre outdoor studio portrait park is perfect for candids and casual portraits. Many of our clients choose to have their family portraits shot there. It’s a relaxed, outdoor atmosphere where the children can run around a bit and you can enjoy being with them. You can choose from several interesting props and sections of the park from a wooden bridge, a pond and a pier, and with a variety of vintage sofas.

Cozy Indoor Studio

Some of our clients prefer a slightly more formal studio portrait shot indoors. That’s fine, too! Our studio portraits are what we call “Today’s Classics.” Although they are done in our indoor studio, we can keep things a bit more serious if you want — or just as casual as our outdoor portraits. It’s entirely up to you as the client!

As a custom photographer, we give our clients what they want. “Your photography is beautiful and I can’t wait for our family portrait session! Looking forward to working with you both.” There are no more beautiful words for a family photographer to hear or read! And, we read them when Leslie contacted us as a Northern Virginia photographer, near Great Falls, VA, and not too far from her family’s home.

Leslie wanted to commission us for portraits in our Outdoor Portrait Park. As she was in her final month of pregnancy, the portraits would wait until after the new baby’s arrival.

Family Portrait Session

Little Jack joined his cute, older brother Carson in the family pictures taken in the fall, in October. Leslie had shared with us that Carson might want to hold one of his favorite car or trains during the photo session. Well, of course, he could!
